You simply dictate directly into a program like Microsoft(R) Word. Using VoiceType with other applications couldn't be easier. A quick dictation window pops up automatically to let you know if an application is not speech-aware. The program gives you a wide variety of ways to dictate text and integrate your applications, including VoiceType own speech-aware word processor, called VoicePad. You can also create your own dictation shortcuts [called macros] for often- used text or your return address, for example. IBM ViaVoice Gold ~ Continuous Speech Recognition ~ Version 4.3 ~ IBM Part Number 04L062This is a VINTAGE item. It is for Speech Recognition that will automatically type what you speak, and I believe it is from the IBM product family often referred to as "VoiceType". Believed to be a RARE item on the secondary market! The photos show everything that is contained in the package. Further details of what is shown in the photos:photo #1: everything that is included in this salephoto #2: an adapter and a headset microphonephoto #3: close-up of the adapter, and note that it is in a SEALED packagephoto #4: close-up of the headset microphone, and note that it is in excellent condition, with no deterioration of the foam piecesphoto #5: install CD, in its original plastic container -- and note that this plastic container is a sleeve with a flap. The CD has IBM part number 04L3900.photo #6: another view of the install CDphoto #7: another CD, this one entitled "Bonus Pack for Voice Enabler for Microsoft Insternet Explorer 4.0 for Windows 95". I had 4 different ViaVoice products at one time (having received some as promotional items), so I never used this one. It has always been stored in my smoke-free, climate-controlled home office. This is brand new and still sort of factory sealed with the shrink wrap.The UPC and front page of the manual were carefully removed years ago for rebate purposes.The manual is large so the cut out on the bottom of the box (see picture) is too.You can remove the contents through it but this has never been used.The box says it's used with Windows 98 or Me.I'm not sure if it's compatible with any other windows OS
